A new era in golf has begun at Kalamazoo Country Club (KCC). As part of its historic reimagining, construction is now underway on the Club’s 11-hole short course, with play expected to begin in spring 2026. This milestone marks the first visible step toward a full-scale golf transformation that includes a new 18-hole championship course, designed by renowned golf course architect Andrew Green, set to open in spring 2027. “Kalamazoo is going to have a golf course that attracts membership from all over to play – not just because it’s new, but because it’s memorable,” said Green. He expresses pride in designing a course that will resonate far beyond the club’s membership and attract attention across the region and beyond.
Green, who visited the property last week, personally shaped several holes on-site, which speaks directly to his deep involvement and passion for bringing world-class golf experiences to life. Reflecting on his first impression of the site, Green remarked, “I looked out over this vista and said, ‘This is a golf cathedral.” His reverence for the land sets the tone for the project, an inspired design that honors the terrain rather than imposing a formula.

Breaking Ground on the Future of Golf at KCC
Construction is now underway on KCC’s new 11-hole short course, which is divided into two distinct loops: Blue Loop and Red Loop. Designed for players of all skill levels, these fun, flexible loops will offer a unique alternative to traditional 9 or 18-hole play, allowing for shorter, faster rounds that are big on creativity and strategy. Whether members are looking to sharpen their short game or enjoy a casual round with friends and family, the course promises excitement and accessibility in equal measure.
Next, in August 2025, construction begins on the club’s brand-new 18-hole championship course, expected to open for member play in spring 2027. This groundbreaking project represents a major milestone for Green, as it will be his first original full 18-hole course design. The new layout will increase total green space by 30%, from 83,000 to 117,000 square feet, enhancing playability and elevating the competitive experience for serious golfers.

Alongside new course development, KCC continues to set a new standard in golf training. The club’s Golf Performance Center features four TrackMan hitting bays, two teaching studios, and PuttView—an innovative technology that provides real-time putting feedback and green visualization. With a larger driving range, dedicated short game practice area, and a 30,000-square-foot putting green, KCC is positioning itself as one of the region’s most complete environments for player development.
